Top 10 cities to visit in Belgium 🇧🇪
Reading time: 2 minutes
Belgium is really underrated, now that I live close to the border, I have the chance to discover quite a bit of Belgium, this small country that knows how to charm travelers with its welcoming people, its chocolate, its beer and its fries.
Belgium is highly recommended for a road trip or even for a short weekend getaway; it’s exactly what is suggested to clients who want to switch off not too far from home.
Brussels, the capital
A cosmopolitan capital, and probably my favorite: Brussels. Wandering around the Grand Place, seeing the famous Manneken Pis (by the way, did you know his sister Jeanneke-Pis? There is a challenge to find her in Brussels, as well as his dog, the Zinneke-Pis. Time for a treasure hunt.
Brussels perfectly reflects both modern and traditional Belgium, and its Christmas market is truly magnificent (it’s a yearly tradition).
Brussels is very well known, and that’s why it is the favorite.

Bruges, the Venice of the North
How could anyone miss the most beautiful city in Belgium? Located in Flanders (the Flemish part), Bruges is undoubtedly the most touristic city in Belgium, and honestly, it’s easy to see why. Between its canals, medieval streets and the Basilica of the Holy Blood, it has an incredible charm.
During the end-of-year holidays, Bruges and its streets become magical, and who can seriously resist an artisanal hot chocolate?
So, destination Bruges for next Christmas?

Ghent the medieval
Close to Bruges, this city has a medieval atmosphere with its castles and cathedral.
I haven’t set foot there yet, but I know that people mostly fall in love with it after a cruise on the city’s boats. Personally, it’s on my to-do list to end 2026 on a high note.
Mons, the cultural one
Living very close to Mons, I go there regularly. It’s a city that divides opinions according to my Belgian friends. Personally, I find it very lively and its events are really cool. Great restaurants and that Walloon atmosphere that I really like. It’s perfect for a day trip when staying nearby.
PS: for those who know, the train station is really unique, personally I love it.
Antwerp, the chic one
Aside from the fact that I got a fine there, I love the city. It has a slightly Dutch vibe. As the world capital of diamonds and design, it’s perfect for people with slightly more luxurious tastes (haha). It’s easy to find happiness there with chic restaurants and a stroll through the Meir district to go shopping.

Durbuy, the tiniest
A real postcard setting and yet not that well known. Strolling through its medieval center, enjoying a pint on a terrace, going kayaking or visiting its caves. It’s a bit far, it’s small, but if passing through the area it will not disappoint.
Liège, the friendly one
For anyone who loves markets, Liège is the place to be, home to what is said to be the biggest market in Belgium (La Batte). The city is lively and dynamic. And if possible, climb the 373 steps of the Montagne de Bueren for a panoramic view over the city. It is also the city of waffles and festive bars (and of Philippe Boxho for those who are fans).
Ostend for a breath of fresh air
Belgium’s seaside resort, a place almost everyone has visited at least once, whether coming from the north or from Belgium itself. It is perfect for a short weekend to recharge and enjoy mussels and fries. From Bruges it is only 30 minutes away, and its wide beach awaits with beautiful sunsets.
Dinant, the most original
Dinant is quite a small town but truly dazzling, nestled between cliffs and a river. There is the vivid memory of dining on the quays at sunset. A short cruise or a kayaking trip is a must, and the view of the citadel is not to be missed.
Louvain-la-Neuve, the party town
Not the favorite destination, but for anyone young who loves beer and partying, this is exactly where to go. It is actually a pretty town, but the visit is quickly done.
This week’s selection aims to inspire visits to beautiful Belgium and to share the same appreciation for it.
